In this book, we follow Franz Liszt from day to day during the five periods – together about ten weeks – he spent in the Netherlands. The richly illustrated monograph not only gives a picture of the extremely busy life of one of the most versatile and charismatic musicians of the romantic era, but also of musical life in the Netherlands in the 19th century and Liszt’s contacts with our royal family.

Since hardly anything can be found in foreign Liszt literature about Liszt’s five visits to the Netherlands – he was there for about two and a half months in all – I thought it desirable to publish an English version as well. In terms of content, this book is identical to the Dutch version.
